Two Pieces for Viola & Cello – Rebecca Clarke
Three Madrigals for Violin & Viola – Bohuslav Martinu
Serenade in C major, Op. 10 for String Trio – Ernst von Dohnanyi
EMBRACING RESONANCE explores the possibilities of mixing the sonorities of the violin, viola & cello in a chamber music setting. The aim is to present string instruments in varied combinations that are usually neglected in a concert hall.
Several composers throughout the history of music have identified the artistic capabilities of merging these intimate sounds. Therefore, the works being presented are broad & varied under the conception of ’embracing resonance’, showcasing a musical writing that erases the lines & mixes the sounds of these instruments.
The program will open with works by the most characteristic classical composers, Mozart & Beethoven. The second half will then explore a more modern approach, with works by Clarke, Martinu & Dohnanyi.
The repertoire has been chosen to assist in portraying a more intimate & specific sonic language, hoping to broaden the interest of a wider audience.
