Program: Beethoven’s Piano Sonata Opus 110
Brahms late Klavierstrucke Opus 116 & 118

Program “speaks” on the ways that the late works of Beethoven & Brahms mourn, celebrate & try to foget life narratives of intense love & loss.

Praised as “a pianist with a kind of freedom, authority & strength that one expects from the world’s finest pianists” (The Berkeley Daily Planet), twenty year-old pianist Audrey Vardanega has engaged audiences in China, Luxembourg, Italy & Greece, having received private instruction from notable names such as Gary Graffman, Yefim Bronfman & Richard Goode. Born & raised in San Francisco Bay Area, Audrey studied piano with Professor Robert Schwartz of the San Francisco Conservatory (2002 thru 2013). Since moving to New York to study Political Science & Gender Studies at Columbia University, Audrey’s instructors have included Seymour Lipkin, Jeremy Siepmann & Christopher Elton – current instructors are Marie Asteriadou & Victor Rosenbaum. A life-long mentee of the late Maestro George Cleve, Audrey made her debut as an orchestral soloist at age 11 with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, shortly after which she became the youngest soloist in the history of the Bay Area’s Midsummer Mozart Festival (performing three Mozart piano concerti under the direction of Maestro George Cleve). Audrey has been featured as a solo recitalist at venues such as Copia in Napa Valley, the Hangzhou Grand Theater, the Hangzhou Conservatory of Music & the Berkeley Hillside Club (amongst others). Audrey currently programs Classical music on Columbia University’s Radio Station WKCR 89.9FM. Audrey plans on writing her Senior Thesis on the politics of Classical piano performance in the Fall of 2016.
