Leonieke Bio – (age 12 – pronounced “lay-o-nee-ka) – was named after Pianist Leonieke Vermeer while the family was living and on assignment in Holland. Leonieke became inspired to play piano from watching / listening to the movie “Ray”. With no prior training, Leonieke began spending many hours at a piano learning and exploring her musical gift / talent. Age 7, Leonieke recorded selections including two original compositions. The recording found its way to Jazz Pianist Steve Ash. Leonieke has been studying with Steve since that crossing of paths. Leonieke was the recipient of the 2013 International Women in Jazz “Youth in Action” Award and released her CD “Debut” January 1, 2014. Personnel on the CD – Leonieke (Piano & Hammond B3), Sister Natasha (Vocals), their Dad Nick (Drums & Percussion), Tim Givens (Bass), Jimmy Cobb (Drums) – produced by Cecilia Coleman and Nick Scheuble – Engineered by Rudy Van Gelder.
Natasha Bio – (age 16) – has been involved in the Arts since early childhood at age 2. Natasha commenced violin study at age 6. Natasha is now first violinist with the Northern New Jersey Youth Orchestra and with her High School Orchestra. Natasha has also performed with the Essex County Youth Symphony and Chamber Ensemble for 2 years. Natasha also has studied ballet with Warren Lynch for the past 6 years. Natasha is a member of the All State All Women’s Choir and has been selected for the 2014-2015 season with the All-State Mixed Choir. Natasha was the recipient of the 2014 International Women in Jazz “Youth in Action” Award.
