Wednesday – August 19, 2015 – 8:00p. – 10:00p. – The Concert Space at Beethoven Pianos – VIKTORIJA GECYTE WITH GO TRIO (WILD CAT TOUR) – 211 West 58th St. (between Broadway & 7th Ave.) – 10019 – Tel. No. 212.390.8019. GO TRIO – www.gotrio.com – Viktorija Gecyte (Vocalist) – Gene Perla (Bass) – Sean Gough (Pianist) – Jon Arkin (Drums). Special Guest for this Concert – Joe Magnarelli.
Vocalist Viktorija Gecyte was singing on television in her native Lithuania as early as age 5. Now living in Paris, over 20 years later, she continues to appear on stages around the world. With a swinging sensation, an “enchanting….velvet voice,” & a conversational intimacy that may remind jazz fans of Billie Holiday. Ms. Gecyte is breathtakingly cosmopolitan, inhabiting with equal ease the Great American Songbook, Lithuanian folk songs & tender French chansons. For a 7th American Tour, Vicktorija joins Go Trio, ” a shining example of both a trio’s tightness & its elasticity.” Propelled by Gene Perla, formerly Bassist for Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Elivin Jones & Sonny Rollins, the Group also features New Jersey Pianist Sean Gough & San Francisco Drummer Jon Arkin. Together, they make remarkably touching, impromptu music.
Special Guest Joe Magnarelli – moved to NYC in 1986 & quickly became a regular participant in the New Yok & international jazz communities. Joe’s early career included touring & recording with Lionel Hampton, Jack McDuff, Toshiko Akioshi, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Harry Connick Jr. & the Hard Bop Quintet. Joe has performed with the Vanguard Orchestra, Jane Monheit, Jon Hendricks, Jimmy Cobb, Tom Harrell Big Band, The Carnegie Hall Orchestra, Don Sebesky, John Pizzarelli, Aretha Franklin, Rosemary Clooney, Joe Williams & the Lincoln Center Orchestra. Joe is currently a professor of music at the Juilliard School of Music & Rutgers University. Joe conducts clinics & master classes around the world, sharing his musical experience & knowledge.
